Swimming pool leak detection

Swimming pool leak detection

Find the leak, not rebuild the pool.

A leaking pool can lose water from the basin itself, from skimmers and jets, from supply and recirculation lines, from the technical room, from the main drain or from backwash lines. Pinpointing the source avoids rim demolition, costly draining (with potential structural damage from inverted ground pressure) and months of operational downtime. We use tracer gas, CCTV, segmented pressure tests and targeted dye tracing to reach the exact point. We work on residential, condominium, hotel and sports centre pools. On request we also handle the complete repair.

What we check

Basin watertightness with level monitoring under pump-on and pump-off conditions (the classic test to discriminate basin vs network leaks); ceramic, fibreglass, liner or membrane finishes, with underwater inspection if needed; supply and return lines with segmented pressure tests; skimmer and jet fittings with seal collar inspection; technical room valves, main drain, pumping and filtration system, backwash lines. The test sequence is precise: we always start from static elements (basin at rest), then pressurise the lines and verify with tracer gas or dye.

No need to drain the pool

In most cases the basin does not need to be drained, which is a major advantage both in cost terms (refilling a medium pool costs hundreds of euros in water) and in safety terms (on buried pools in groundwater, draining can lift the structure). Tracer gas can be injected with a full pool and detected above the water surface, drastically reducing time and cost. Food-grade dye tracing tracks water flow toward the hole. Only in the most stubborn cases do we resort to partial or full draining.

Report and repair warranty

At the end we deliver a technical-photographic report describing the exact leak point, hypothesised cause (material deterioration at end of service life, original installation defect, accidental event such as freeze or impact) and detailed operational guidance for repair. If we perform the repair directly, we provide a formal written warranty on workmanship and materials with explicit duration and scope. All documentation is structured for use in builder warranty claims (on recent pools still within the construction warranty period) or in insurance claims for damage to surrounding areas.

Where we operate

Our operative base is in Casale Monferrato (AL). We operate throughout northern Italy — Piedmont (Turin, Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo, Vercelli, Novara), Lombardy (Milan, Bergamo, Brescia), Aosta Valley, Veneto (Venice, Verona, Padua), Liguria (Genoa, Savona, La Spezia), Emilia-Romagna (Bologna, Modena, Parma) — and on request also in France and Switzerland with agreed response times. Our logistics keep a single dedicated technical crew on site from initial survey to intervention completion, avoiding handovers between teams and ensuring continuity throughout the job.

Frequently asked questions

How much water loss is normal before calling you?

A well-maintained pool should not lose more than 2-3 mm per day from evaporation, varying with temperature and wind. A loss above 1 cm/day is almost certainly a structural or plumbing problem worth diagnosing immediately before it worsens.

Does it work on concrete in-ground pools?

Yes — this is actually one of the contexts where the combination of tracer gas plus underwater inspection is most effective. On concrete structures the leak is often due to microcracks that the dye reveals clearly.

How much does an intervention cost?

Cost depends on pool size and network complexity. For a standard family pool the diagnostic is a few hundred euros. Immediate phone quote available.
